4 am for the psychopaths, 6 am for the driven, 8 am if your kids are old enough to fend for themselves. Regardless of what time you awake to take on the world, there’s one thing you ought to be doing as soon as you rise. At this point, you might be thinking, “Oh, great, one more thing to add to my ever-growing to-do list.” Fear not friend, what we recommend doing doesn’t require any physical work.
Be grateful. That’s it. According to the internet, gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return the kindness. Synonyms consist of words like thanks, appreciation, recognition, acknowledgement etcetera. Here, we say gratitude, for the most part, is about thanking life for your life in the present state.
Being grateful gives you a good starting base to go forth and conquer your day. No matter the level of your ridiculous misfortune, starting the morning with gratitude gives you the opportunity to acknowledge all the things that are good and going well in your life. This brings a happy feeling, cue dopamine.
Or you cannot show gratitude, the choice is yours, do as you please. Which brings us to our next point, giving gratitude doesn’t mean you don’t want or don’t believe in wanting more because trust us, we want more. It just means you understand that things could be a whole heap worse and you’re thankful that it’s not the case.
“What separates us from entitlement is gratitude.” – Brene Brown
Don’t pick up your phone yet until you’ve done this too. Hug, kiss (and more if the mutual mood and time permits) and say good morning to your partner. In today’s worlds it’s all too easy to check our phones, take a piss and start your day but make sure show a lil love every morning.
Most people don’t do this hence why when they roll into work they look so pissed off. But that’s not going to be you.
But yeah, gratitude.
